Specialization Part
The Specialization Part consists of two areas. These areas are oriented at the main research activities of the participating physics institute. One of the areas will develop into the Primary the other into the Secondary Area.
The Primary Area comprises 21 credit points and in general serves as the basis of your MSc. thesis. The Secondary Area comprises 12 credit points.
Thanks to our joint graduate school, you can also take courses at the University of Bonn. Some of these are broadcasted to Cologne. All relevant lectures from Bonn can be found on the websites of the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy.
All courses offered in Cologne can be accredited for the Primary Area, the Secondary Area and the Elective Area. Courses offered in Bonn can be accredited for the Secondary Area and for the Elective Area. (In some cases, specific courses from Bonn can also be added to the Primay Area if suitable.)
Students may take their first term to choose their areas of specialization.
Sometimes a suitable choice of the courses is not obvious. If you have problems in the planning of the courses, please contact directly one of the coordinators named in the respective module description.
To register for courses in Cologne, please see our guidelines for the usage of KLIPS2.0. For any courses in Bonn, kindly contact the BCGS office in Cologne.
