Research

Five institutes conduct research on current issues in the fields of astronomy, experimental solid-state physics, nuclear physics, biological physics, and theoretical physics. Information on the research activities of the individual groups can be found on the institutes’ websites.

The interdepartmental research within the Department is also reflected in numerous collaborative projects. The Department of Physics at the University of Cologne is home to two Clusters of Excellence funded under the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) Excellence Strategy, as well as various Collaborative Research Centers funded by the DFG.
