Studium Integrale

The Studium integrale consists of interdisciplinary courses that can be selected from the wide range of courses offered by the university. A total of 12 credit points are allocated to the Studium integrale.

In principle, all courses at the University of Cologne can be taken as part of the Studium integrale. However, these may not be compulsory courses of the Bachelor's or Master's degree programs in Physics or may not largely overlap with compulsory courses in terms of content. The courses are not graded.

All credits earned at other universities, e.g. in a previous degree course or abroad, can be recognized in the Studium integrale without further requirements. Conversely, the Studium integrale is suitable for acquiring foreign language skills in preparation for a stay abroad. In addition, up to 6 CP of the Studium integrale can be covered by the recognition of professional internships; the details are regulated in the examination regulations.

To find courses in KLIPS, please use the course search. You will not find all selectable courses via the "curriculum"!

Please note the following points:

• In the case of very full courses to which not all students can be admitted, students of the respective subjects have priority. In addition, some departments have explicitly blocked certain courses for students of other subjects.
• If you would like to take courses that are not explicitly recommended for Studium Integrale and for which you have no experience with credit transfer, you must explicitly clarify the possibility of credit transfer with the Examinations Office and the respective lecturer in advance!
• Please note the different registration deadlines and rules for each course!
• Please deregister from courses if you do not wish to attend them after all; many departments are dependent on this in order to be able to admit other students who are also waiting for a place in the course.
• After successfully passing the individual courses, the respective lecturer will issue a corresponding certificate, which you should submit to the Examinations Office.

Note: The regulations for the Studium integrale differ in detail in different degree programs, only the specially recommended courses (below) can be credited in the Studium integrale in all degree programs.

Highly recommended lectures

All departments offer courses that are explicitly recommended for students of other subjects. A complete list of these recommended courses can be found at KLIPS via "Curriculum" under "Studium Integrale". (Please note: these are not all options, but only the recommended ones.) These courses can also be taken there directly and without any arrangements or certificates on paper. The places at the Faculty of Human Sciences are initially allocated exclusively to subject-specific students. If additional capacity is available, students from other faculties can take advantage of the courses on offer.

The Department of Physics itself offers a range of Studium integrale courses (see below), which are also of interest to physics students.
