Career prospects

As part of Studium integrale, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is offering the lecture series “From Campus to Career—Career Paths in STEM” for all students of UoC. Given the subject-matter overlap, this event is of particular interest to students majoring in mathematics, computer science, and the natural sciences. Building on the successful “Physicists in the Workplace” series from the Department of Physics, it broadens the perspective on the diverse career opportunities in the natural sciences.

To this end, the faculty invites alumni and working professionals from various disciplines to share insights into their professional fields, personal career paths, and day-to-day work. The event offers students the opportunity to learn about different fields of work, ask questions, and gain inspiration for their own career planning.

When: every Tuesday during the lecture period, 5:45–7:15 p.m.
Where: seminar room 0.03 in the extension building of the Department of Physics (Zülpicher Straße 77a)
For more details, visit the event’s ILIAS page. Please register for the event in KLIPS.

In the original event format, “Physicists in the Workplace,” physicists working at research institutions (including DLR, Fraunhofer, Forschungszentrum Jülich), in industry (including Ford, Bayer, and Infineon), at management consulting firms (including d-fine and Finbridge), and in government agencies (including the Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Network Agency) shared their career paths. The exact programs of past events can be found here: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, 2024.

For specific questions or additional career guidance services, we recommend the offerings of the Professional Center. In addition to interesting continuing education seminars and useful tips on applying for jobs, the staff at the Professional Center also offer individual coaching sessions.
