Scholarship of the Physics Department

We support talented and committed students in physics when applying for suitable scholarships.

In the master's program and as a doctoral student, you can receive funding from the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy BCGS. In addition to financial support, the BCGS offers a mentoring program as well as a combined and coordinated range of advanced lectures and seminars in Cologne and Bonn.

The BCGS awards full grants (two years) for the master's degree as part of the "Honors Branch". The application is made via the BCGS website, the application deadline is January 15 for the following winter semester.

Scholarship of the University of Cologne

Beyond the different scholarship foundations, the University of Cologne offers its own scholarship programme, both for Bachelor and for Master students (first Master's degree). You can apply already before the course starts, as well as during the course of your studies. Some of these scholarships, which amount to 300 Euro per month, are specifically reserved for physics students. These scholarships are independent of, and on top of, student loans (BAföG), if applicable.

The scholarships are financed to fifty percent by private individuals and companies, to fifty percent by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Currently Cologne physics students hold scholarships from Ergo Versicherungsgruppe AG, TÜV Rheinland and the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung. A scholarship for a Master student financed by d-fine GmbH will be awarded this year for the first time.

The Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy BCGS is for Master- and PhD-students. Beyond financial support, the BCGS offers a mentoring programme, as well as a series of combined lectures and seminars in Cologne and Bonn.

Financial Support of the University

The so-called Studierendenförderungsfond offers interest-free loans for students in the final phase of their studies.
