In two years, our master's students extend their knowledge and skills considerably and specialize in one or several areas of physics. An important element of the master's program in Cologne is the Master's thesis which brings our students in contact with the frontier of current research. The lectures of the Master's program are given in English.
The master program in physics comprises a mandatory part of required courses (advanced quantum mechanics or statistical physics and an advanced lab course), as well as an optional part with a broad range of choices. This includes a master's thesis a the frontier of current research.
Thank you very much for your interest in the Master course of Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. For Master courses applications go directly to the respective department – in contrast to applications for Bachelor and Teaching courses.
The curriculum gives an overview over the master's course and describes the required lectures, lab courses, seminars etc.
At the beginning courses in two main areas of specialization will be taken. These subjects are oriented at the main research activities of the participating physics institute. One of the subjects will develop into the primary the other into the secondary area of specialization. As a rule, the primary area of specialization is also the basis for the M.Sc. thesis.
